    Old truck and the rainbow

We had some rather strange atmospheric conditions that let me capture a complete rainbow with an old truck serving as a point of interest, in fact, we could see a complete double rainbow (partially visible in this shot). More extensive coaxing is required and will have to wait until I get home tomorrow and get a shot at it with my proper editing suite....

    Old truck and the rainbow

Nikon D800 with Nikkor f/2.8 14-24mm lens shot at ISO 100, 1/8th second at f/8 at 14mm focal length.

Wonderful shot Manfred... perhaps a little more space in the foreground? The rear tyre is very close to the edge in my opinion.

I'm going to have to create the space in post. The place was not quite as deserted as it seems as we had around 50 people standing just behind me as well as having a tent and cars and all kinds of other stuff just around. There is a large barn just behind me. I could just barely squeeze everything in, given the topography and the position of the wreck and the rainbow.

    More PP work is required.

That's a beautiful shot, Manfred. Love the color and the light and how many of the lines lead to the center. Great job!

Always nice to be in the right place at the right time and have the wherewithal to get the proper exposure.

Getting some help to chase some of the people standing in the line of sight out of the frame helps too!

I really enjoy this photo. Knowing how fleeting rainbows can be, glad you were able to capture it.

Ah, good, I'm not the only one!

Recently I had to politely ask some members of a family randomly occupying a seat and standing around chatting, chimping on their mobiles, etc., if they would kindly move on as a friend was trying to take a picture. This after much patience (over 10 minutes waiting) and hints (me pointedly pretending to take their picture in the scene) had failed to encourage them to vacate a particularly nice area we wanted to capture. They didn't make a fuss and did wander off. I just found it odd that of the three generations present, no-one seemed to comprehend how their presence would spoil a photo and it wasn't as if they were enjoying the area, what they were engaged in could have been done one of the other seats in the park. Takes all sorts I guess and they did comply when asked, so all good in the end.

    Nice shot Manfred,

I agree the 14mm on FF has rather led to an over emphasis of the nearest truck wheel, but it was worth it to get the shot.

    Cheers, Dave

Beautiful picture - considering you had limited time to capture even this one gorgeous shot. Rainbows don't seem to last as long as we'd like them too.

That's really the prize here. Usually your left looking for something to make the shot before it disappears and fail miserably. It still takes skill when it comes together though. Fine shot Manfred.

Love it!! Can I ask what equipment and settings you used?
Love the clarity and sharpness of the photo
