Please do not apologise. Your English is considerably better than my French. And as a passionate Francophile I'm delighted to see someone from France as a member of C in C (I think you are the only one).

I am viewing your picture on my work-based computer which is not calibrated and profiled, so the colours are false. But the compostion and lighting look excellent. Congratulations.

Wow! beauty of a shot. In my opinion there is nothing to improve on here. The lather on the horse, the context showing the size and scope of the jump and the expression on the riders face are just awesome. This is a classic. Nice work.

If you are interested we have a horse thread going.

    Hi Wendy,
I was just worried for my first thread on the forum to have created troubles.
BTW, horse photography seems to be one of your topics of interest ?

Don't worry Thierry you did not cause any problems. Beautiful shot for your first post. Are you a professional photographer?

Photography is just a hobby for me, but I do like horses and they make very good subjects.

Hello again, Thierry. I'm now back at home and looking at your image on my own monitor.

As Wendy has said, this is magnificent. One of the great skills in the composition, in my opinion, is that you positioned yourself for the shot so that you achieved this particular arrangement of horse a rider and with the tree providing the background for all of them both. It would have been so easy to miss seeing this and ending uip with the tree/sky line cutting across the body of the horse or the rider.

Beautifully focused, beautifully composed and beautifully presented.

    Hi Thierry,

I just peeked at the EXIF and was a little surprised and impressed at what I read; 1/3200s f2, iso100 and 85mm, can't see the camera model though.

This makes the focusing all the more impressive with such a narrow DoF.

Great shot, and of course, you get my welcome to the CiC forums from ...

    Hi evrybody,
thanks alot for this huge welcome and for your appreciation of this picture. Dave FYI my DSLR is a Canon 7D. I work with a very wide aperture to highlight the main topic of my picture moreover during such contest there are very often advertisements that I try to minimize by this way.

85 mm is not the position of a zoom but a fixed lens which is known to provide better quality of picture

    Hello Thierry,

I cannot add anything new to the comments. Wonderful shot! I have the same lens, I think (85mm f1.8?), and really like it. Looking forward to seeing more of your photos.

    Very nice shots
Personally, I prefer the colour version, as I find the horse stands out a bit more against the background.

And, Saumur, isn't that the city of the 'cadre noir'?

Thanks for your comment remco. You are right, saumur is the City of the "Cadre Noir" and also from the "national equestrian school"
