    Playing With Shadow And Light

Some explanation might be in order...

The railing of the deck ( First and second images) runs north-south.

Behind the railing (out of view in upper right of first and second images and running east-west) is a white coloured wall with three large windows.

At the south end of our lot/property are several tall trees (out of view and far to left in first and second images).

As the position of the run changes relative to the deck (yes, I know... the deck is really the moving thing and not the sun) and goes behind/through the trees, the amount of light hitting the wall and reflecting back onto the railing changes and results in some interesting patterns of light and shadow.

I noticed the effect a couple weekends ago and was quite mesmerized as the patterns of light and shadow changed... but it took a bit before all the factors of work/time, weather, camera in hand all aligned.

When I used to go outside I noticed such things too...observation is a good thing. I call it contemplating on my navel. This is similar to tabletop photography but you are the one who plays with light and not nature. With the appropriate prop you can do it too in a dark room with only your light playing on an object instead. It is very calming watching the shape changes...try it....
