Hi Mick,
What settings did you use? You might try pointing the camera at the North Pole to get more curvature in the trails. Pointing towards the equator you get straighter lines.

The one above was for an hour @ f8.
This one was for 40 mins @ f2.8. Noise is more noticeable after 20 mins and with a more open aperture.
The wood burning stove was for 20 mins @ f8.
I started doing this on film a few years ago, I still had some noise on film, ironed out in Ps.
It's more flexible on film, this was a double exposure, first for the stars, second for the trees.
