    My new camera bag

I never thought that I would need another camera bag

However, there are pretty tight security regulations at the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Air Show which I will visit on September 3rd:

I have absolutely no problems with these regulations but they pretty well forced me to buy this bag

I usually wear a photo vest for shooting but, when I phoned MCAS Miramar Security regarding the admittance wearing such a vest, the answer I got was quite ambiguous. I ascertained from that, the final O.K. or non O.K. would be up to the individual security guy or gal manning the gate and I don't want to take a chance.

I am bringing only one camera (7DII) and one lens 100-400L Mk-II so carrying gear will not be much of a problem. Just a couple of CF cards, an extra battery and a CPL will be all that I need.

Besides, it is often pretty darn hot at the airshow and I have had problems wearing a vest to that event in the past. I want to carry a couple of bottles of water also in the bag, sunscreen spray and my extreme sun hat:

I could buy water there but, I'd rather have ambient temperature water because I don't like to chug down ice cold water in extreme heat...

I would guess that this may be the only event at which I will use my new CAMERA BAG

Wow Richard, I went to our biggest? air show a few weeks back and apart from opening and looking at the contents of my camera bag all was pretty cool and they had thousands attending each day. Seems a bit ott to me.

I do remember flying out of France a few years back and one security person taking each lens out and very carefully removing the lens caps and looking through to check no 'illegal' storage.

The world has become a very paranoid place.... but I suppose the old joke still applies , just because you are paranoid doesn't mean to say they are not out to get you!

    Enjoy the airshow

Haha Richard, one can never have too many nice handbags or a need camera bags...Lucky me qualifies for both!
A great idea! Perfect for sports stadiums.

I'm looking & booking our events for our NY trip coming up & they all seem to say 'no professional cameras' (or tripods or extra lighting, which I understand)
How do they decide what is 'professional' as I'm sure every second visitor will have a DSLR?

I'm referring to TOR, SOL, 1WTC and 9/11 Museum, I have t yet decided if I'll take the 7D or 5D, but I will take the battery grip off for a start that should make either more amateur I hope.

"Professional" designated cameras are what the guy at the gate thinks a "Professional" camera is. Usually, size has something to do with it... However, there's no use fighting it and I would hate to have to walk back to my car and store the camera. Besides being a PITA, that would make it vulnerable to theft. The only place I ever had my car broken into was in New York City...

I like your sun hat...whereabouts can one buy that? I want one for Bill! He is so lily-white he burns easily....looks similar to a Panama sun hat...but I like the netting one in yours for extra protection. I had not known Miramar to be this strict. No backpack??? and they advised that you can bring a camera and/or binoculars. Where can one put that?

    Hi Izzie,

These hats are all over eBay. This auction has he best selection of colors. I suggest a light color for reflective purposes. Ensure that the material ia SPF...

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/262306643732

You can snap off the portion that covers the neck and also the portion which covers the face and keep them in your pocket 'till you need them.

It is made from light material and is not very hot to wear. even with the back flap and front piece snapped on. The mesh insert seems to allow me to breath a bit better,

Just go to eBay and enter sunscreen hats.

Another anti sun cancer item is a neck gaiter.

The advantages of this piece of sun protection gear is that you can wear it with just about any hat and you can cary one in your pocket. The disadvantage is that some of these (especially the cheaper versions) are pretty darn hot to wear!

I shoot frequently at the Pensacola NAS airshows & practices and of late, they provide a "professionals only" roped off flight line shooting area but still limit you to one camera w/lens and one extra lens but it cannot be carried in a bag, though a pouch is okay. I don't at all mind their paranoia, in fact, welcome the close scrutiny.

That's the simplest camera bag I've seen. Probably a good idea not to wear the hat going through security either. Or at least not the part that covers your face.

Flying from Calgary to Vancouver on my way to Iceland recently, and security tested all my lenses for explosives! didn't check the cameras though.

How about transparent clothing. That may not bepopular but, think of the photo opportunities...
