    Did I miss a trick.

Hi all, this morning i needed to take a shot of a document to send via email. No matter what I tried I could not get the Tamron 90 to focus. I slipped on the 18-55 and no problems.

Is this a limitation of the Tamron or did i just not do it right?

Perhaps it was the minimum focusing distance that did you in. Here's some info on working distance versus minimum focusing distance.

I got in as close as I could and still get the whole shot.

The lens has a minimum focus distance. You can focus the lens as close as possible and then move the camera back until the subject is in focus. That's it, the focus distance. Take the shot and then use post- processing to get the final shot you want.

Brian, did you try "manually" focusing?

For your Tamron the closest you can get to your subject is roughly 6 inches.

I think that's probably the best you can do, I assume you meant the whole page which should be easy.

Not if the closest focusing distance as others have mentioned prevented that from happening.

There are times... I found the problem.

    FINGER MALFUNCTION

I unknowingly switched from full to limited focus

You haven't accidentally turned off the lens autofocus?

Turn that off and see what happens. Some limiters are fairly basic and mechanically block the focus mechanism from rotating. If you have been focusing on small things and now are trying a book, this could be the issue.

    "FINGER MALFUNCTION"

Ah yes....I too suffer from that malady.....as well as exposure settings set to manual when they should be set to aperture priority.....I kept wondering why exposure compensation would not lighten up my shots

Re: Did I miss a trick.

I have caused a malfunction like that with my Canon 600EX RT flash. For some reason, the flash is over exposing my dog portraits that I have been shooting in this way for months with perfect results. I know that it is the flash because I tried it on both my 7DII and my 5DII and both cameras/using the same lens, over exposed. Then I put my 420EX flash on my 7D and nailed the exposure. Nailed it again with the 5DII and 420EX.

    Did I miss a trick.

I don't have the energy to trouble shoot the flash tonight. I will do that in the morning. I am sure that my problem is akin to Brian's. I just touched the wrong switch or button...
