We have Kendall with us now. The poor little guy has mange and we have to keep him isolated and are treating him for that condition. He has been to a vet dermatologist and she prescribed medications and shampoo for his condition...
Mange (akin to human scabies) is very contagious and can be transmitted to humans. We are fortunate in having a large home with a room that has access to a separate cement fenced outdoor area. Kendall needs to be isolated and we handle him only while wearing vinyl gloves. A bleach solution will kill the mange carriers and we spray the outdoor area and Kendall's living quarters liberally with this solution.
It's a bit of a problem because we like to use that room and the outdoor area for other dogs. However we can live with this situation for a couple of weeks until we can return Kendall to the dermatologist for a clear bill of health.
