A bit of history in photos

No, these are not my photographs, of course. However, I thought that we, as photographers might be interested.

I stumbled across these a while ago, they really are astonishing. It brings that era to life in a way I've never experienced before, and the setting is certainly unique. Only a few years after those were taken, the entire country was irrevocably changed.

It is quite amazing, Pops. To me, it's a great reminder to "Go ahead and try it." If you asked someone about the concept of taking B&W images with colored filters, it would be easy to come up with a ton of objections: getting the filters right, registration of the individual images, consistency of exposure, probably lots of others. But here's a guy who did the best he could with the technology he had, and was able to get something priceless, because as Kevin says, once better color technology was available, much of the subject matter had vanished.

Really quite a shock seeing pre-revolutionary scenes and portraits in colour. The portrait of the lady 01657 in the first link is quite stunning. It's strange how your brain gets hard-wired to think BW=old style period, and then suddenly you see it in colour and it really throws you.
