After sunset wheat Comments and Critique always welcome

These were an experiment. Just wanted to see what if anything could be done after sunset with this field of wheat using Capture One as a post processing program. The originals were shot avoiding blowing out the highlights at the horizon but with the histogram pushed as far to right as possible. . Consequently the field was quite dark and the sky too light . i am still working on masking , as can be seen along the horizon lines. Let me know if it is too obnoxious to pass.

    Any thoughts appreciated.

The out of camera is the second image of each, for some reason it posted as a thumbnail.

Not familiar with Capture One or what it's capable of; but what you've presented looks good. Looks like you pulled a lot of warmth from the original.

IMO the second image looks better Trevor. I like the colors and the composition in that one

Both good but second one is the standout because of that sky. However, I think you could lose some off the top for no other reason that so much blurred sky draws the eye a bit. Just some of it would be more effective - IMHO.

With the first image, is that a dark hedge on the horizon or a result of your masking?

When faced with this sort of thing I tend to edit a whole image mask with successive brushing from a low opacity soft brush which can be tapered out over more than the required area, or less, so there is never a sharp edge difference between the two. Giving an effect similar to a gradient mask.

The dark area is the edge of the mask.

Capture One software will recognize the edge and cut off the mask accordingly, unfortunately it sometimes leaves a few pixels on either side unaffected or, even worse, removed leaving white lines or spots. I will try your suggestion . I need something that avoids the edge effect.
