    Wind on Water

When I opened a picture I took of a rockpool, I noticed that ripples created by the wind looked like little brush strokes.

So I returned a couple of days later with the intention of capturing the ripples.

I decided to apply a little bit of topaz glow to this shot. I liked it at first but now I am not so sure. After editing a few of these, I grew tired of the refraction.

This one has just had the contrast enhanced a little with curves.

Of course the results depend on what is in the rockpool and how strong the wind is blowing, as well as the angle of the sun. But, it is something different. C&C welcome.

Hi Greg . I like the first and the last image. They are both nice abstracts for me. If I had to choose between them I would prefer the last one as it has a painterly look and it has so nice colors

    Hi Binnur,
thanks for commenting. I refer the 4th too. for similar reasons. It has been a discovery and a learning curve, as I hope the 4 images would show.

Thanks, John. It's something different to work on when nothing else inspires me.

Thanks Chauncey. Given your estimable work with smoke, I take your comment as a high compliment

I prefer the 4th may be with some more vibrancy to pop up colors.

I like the first two, not sure about the others. I am intreagued to know how you get the ripples without any suggestion of the rock pool bottom. A CPL?

Good series and 3 & 4 stand out for me for me Greg. Typical of modern art . Everyone sees something different. Nice to see some original thinking.

    Re: Wind on Water

Thanks, Jean, John and John too.

John, no CPL used. I tried focusing on different elements and then recomposing. For example, focusing on a shell at water level on the side of the pool and then recomposing the frame. But that tended to produce 'smudgy' results. In the end, I preferred the images where I had focused on something at the bottom of the pool and then just wait for a gust of wind to really ruffle the water and distort the scene. Apart from that, some pools were very shallow - just a few centimetres - and others were some much deeper. That also affected the visibility of the ripple in the water and the intensity of the distortion.
