Wine: Air bubble in Alsatian Pinot Gris

Alsatian white wine at the least has the evident taste of minerals and at the most is downright spicy, especially in the case of Gewurtztraminer. The other predominant grape species grown there are Pinot Blanc, Riesling and Pinot Gris. The wine shown below, Pinot Gris made by Albrecht, is consistently a favorite of mine from year to year.

The bottles used in Alsace are generally taller than standard wine bottles. They also have such a smooth transition from the main body of the bottle to the neck that there is no shoulder. That combination produces an elongated air bubble or series of bubbles when the bottle is laid down, and I've always enjoyed the bubbles combined with the brilliant green color of the bottle's glass.

Setup
Who says elaborate lighting is needed to make attractive studio shots? The tabletop is simply white poster board placed underneath two wine bottles. Just one small continuous-light lamp is on the right side. A polarizer filter controlled a very slight direct reflection produced on the right side of the wine label.

Mike I like the colours and the curves in this image, and I can see how the shape of the label works as a counter to that. But the writing on the label lessens my enjoyment of your image.

Have you considered an alternative? Could you remove the label and shoot the bottle in a the same position and with the same lighting but with just a single bubble inside, so that the result would be a study of the curves?

Greg: If I understand you correctly, you are suggesting an image that is essentially if not entirely an abstraction. The details of your suggestion would be relatively easy to achieve with seemingly limitless possibilities including macro photography.
