Chasm Falls, Rocky Mountain National Park - Colorado

I love waterfalls and once a year I get the chance to photograph them, needless to say I do not get much practice. This is Chasm Falls located up Old Fall River Road in Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado USA. We got there just in time (we were the only ones there for about an hour) to see it show off it's rainbow. The second photo is Old Fall River Road, the road we hiked up to get to the falls (we had to hike because the road was not yet open to vehicles). The second photo I had to work with the sky quite a bit in PP to bring out some color and add a little color. As always constructive advice is always welcome.

That second image, Kathy, looks exactly like the first frame from a Western Movie. I think I can hear the title music beginning to play as a cowboy rides around the corner.

    Wow .... as they say.

The first one is a gem. What I particularly like is that you didn't let the water go to cotton wool. There is still structure and definition in there and that's beautiful.

And as for the second one. How on earth did you work that lighting? Did you do a lot of dodging and burning? I'm not at all surprised by Geoff's comment. It look like it's a movie set. It's got to be viewed full size in the Lightbox. The light on that rock face on the left is just amazing.

    My compliments on both images.

Very nice shots, Kathy. I am just wondering about the bright light on the road in the middle of the 2nd one. The light over the mountain suggests sunset or sunrise to me, but the road seem to be too bright for that time of day.

Thank you Donald! The second one was a challenge with potential. I did a lot of highlighting, playing with shadows, and graduated filter work in Lightroom. All PP was done with lightroom. I can't even tell you for sure what all I did because after I saved the finished photo to my computer I accidentally deleted it from lightroom Here is another edit of this photo that isn't quite as colorful.

Greg you are right, there is a bright light in the middle of the road, I hadn't noticed it. This photo was taken mid morning the lighting was not great but I saw potential in this photo and I loved the composition so I did a little work (maybe more than a little) in PP (Lightroom) to achieve a look of sunrise or sunset. Sometimes a little work in PP is needed to save a photo of composition. Thanks Greg!!

Nice set, I usually don't like the foamy but this works. I also like the rock formations that look like two creatures staring at each other.

Both very nice Kathy . If you re-edit the second image as you deleted the one you uploaded, I would suggest you apply the same color cast to some parts of the road and the light on the road so that nobody can detect a difference in the light It is not easy to turn a midmorning image into a sunset/sunrise image, well done

Thank you Binnur. I will have to see what I can do with that light in the road. I did not noticeit until it was mentioned in an earlier post
