    Here's how it works ...

    - You good folks post MONOCHROME images in the thread (please change your post title to a name for your picture) (Click the "Go Advanced" button)

    - When we get 10 images we will attach a voting poll

    - After 3 days the poll closes and the winner is declared!

    - If you would especially like some critique after the competition poll closes, please make it known in the post

    Too easy eh?

Limit of 1 image per post, and 2 image posts per person.

If there are already 10 in the current comp, please start a new thread in this for

Outstanding Mike. I am lost for words...so there are a good few on this forum who will thank you to keep posting this kind of stuff.

Well I have had a rummage through my cigar box and I guess I wont be submitting a shot this time round. Looks like its you, Rob and Donald to fight it out. No mud or baby oil please I am squeamish

That is indeed what you might call quite a start to the thread. However, others mustn't be dissuaded from posting up their B & Ws into the thread. Mike's setting quite a high bar with this one, but that should encourage the rest of us to stretch ourselves.

Steve's very kind with his comments that my efforts are worth a passing glance. But won't be in this thread. After a few weeks of rather intense pressure at work when, as I 've already said, the camera hasn't been out of the bag, I'm off this weekend to check out Rui's hometown and then head up the Douro Valley for a bit of R & R (also known as a long planned wine-tasting trip). So, it's sans camera for the next 10 days.

    You're too kind.
Why not take your camera, the next competition could be 'blur'!!
Thanks one and all for the encouragement.

    On a lighter note

First of all Mike, everything the others said. And yes please do keep posting. I will keep the tissues by the computer.

Well, I've never let the lack of votes stop me before, so here is my entry for this comp. I'd like some C&C on the border and text. It's the first time I've tried adding text. How do you decide what compliments the image, and what size should be used. I think this is too big??? Anyway, here goes.

Thanks Wendy. I've been known to be quite cheerful on occasions, but do seem to have a huge number of dark images in my portfolio. A tendency to under-expose perhaps!!

    thank you mike,
If you go to London you should really visit the Liberty Warehouse (this one is shot inside it).It is beautiful warehouse completely built in Tudors style. It's great to spend some time over there.

    here's mine.

    Monochrome Mini Competition #37

I got this pic last weekend when I went to Capones Island for a mini vacation. I was disappointed that day because the rain was pouring very hard like it will never end. Our vacation was spared the next day became a bright sunny day.

Was that black perspex very cold whilst you were waiting for the self-timer?

    Like the result though

    haha, that's a good one!

I also like this shot. The lighting like that with the reflection in the perspex looks good also in (artistic) nude shots from real human beings.
Two minor things: there are two white stains on the left top of the picture and there is a slight light area in between the perspex and the background would look better if the transition between the two was a bit smoother.

I thought it was one of your time lapse self portraits again (following a mountain biking trip of course)

What I want to know is how you managed to get remote control of my computer camera

A load of lights; how are these lights suspended? Are these large structures with lights around the outside of the rope or is the rope hanging of the end of the light? cheers
