    Angry Birds

I had the pleasure of dropping in on a wildlife refuge for birds of prey, just north of Duncan, BC, Canada. While it was wonderful to see the animals in a positive environment it was really impressive to see them fly to catch their targets on the wing.

    Hi Binnur:

Thank you for your kind comment, and to answer your question I was using a Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM lens, on a Canon 7D Mk II body. I have had this lens for about 5 years now and found it to be really crisp and yet quite lightweight.

Here are another couple of shots...

Great set of portraits. Really nailed these. For me, they capture both the mystery and majesty of these creatures. And I love those of the bird on the wing. Is that some kind of vulture?

Hi Donald! Thank you for your feedback! .

The top bird and the ones in flight are of a bald eagle, the second one from the top is a golden eagle.

    Thanks Nandakumar:

Donald's inquiry reminded me... there was a scavenger included in the display, a Marabou stork.

While the eagles etc. were free to roam outside most other birds were in enclosures. Consequently that photo of an owl was actually taken through a wire mesh screen, as was the shot below. Lots of people were taking the same shot with their cell phones and, of course, getting a great image of a screen. Three cheers for telephoto DOF effect!
