I like the shape of the stairs and I think I prefer the image without the man. The thing behind the head of the Chinese man looks distracting to me and I would blur it if the image was mine
PS. Well, actually I would blur the all stuff around the Chinese man to lessen the distractions.

I love these pictures, Jean, especially the range of tones in the b&w ones, which is something I'm struggling to get right. I see in some you're shooting wide aperture (4,4.5) and fairly fast (1/500, 1/950), even where you're wanting (and getting) depth of field. I'm curious about that, because my inclination in the same situations would be to shoot smaller and slower?
You are actually going in the opposite direction of what I was writing about, Jean. I find the background unnaturally dark. I can see this type of lighting in a studio shot where you can control the lighting precisely, but it looks quite artificial in a daylight shot where I would expect the same level of light falling on the background as well as your subject.
I would have expected more of the background to be visible and brighter.
I find your most recent postings (#7 and #8) quite delightful as you have nicely created a picture in a picture effect.
)Thank you for your comments.
In street photo, I read (as I'm not a super photographer) ( and I apply each time I do not forget !!!) that you need "high speed" (to freeze movement) and low DoF (to concentrate attention), so to do that sometimes you have to choose: s mini 1/500 s, f stop 2.8 or max 5.6 and ISO accordingly
my minimum ISO is 200 with my XT-1, so sometimes my speed goes until 1/4000s or even 1/32000s

Great composition and processing Jean
Thank you Binnur.
Jean,
They just keep getting better. I like # 9.
Jean, these are all excellent images and cover a wide range of places and styles. They certainly capture the essence of the people and places you have shared with us. Je ne peux qu'admirer.... Merci Bien!

Thank you Paul and Trev, merci beaucoup
Very nice images, it is difficult to guess which country though It there wasn't the B&W image I would say Italy
Some very good extras included in this thread; I almost missed these. I like the combination of art/photography in the most obvious (3, 7, and 8) and in the implied (5, 6).
A very good and enjoyable set of street photography. I particularly like #9, but I find the area between the pillars on the right too bright for my taste.
