    Sunrise

I woke up dead early, couldn't get back to sleep so decided to grab my camera and head down to the beach with the dog.

I was there just before the sun broke the horizon so got some subtle shots and some as the sun came up with a little more drama. I wanted to capture the soft feel of the early light so bunged the 10 stop filter on to smooth things out a little and exposed a little to the right knowing I could lift the shadows without too much damage to the image.

This was about quarter past six - just before the sun came up - you can see it catching the tips of the clouds right on the horizon. I had the centre column flat and the legs almost as wide as they would go so the camera was just above the pebbles.

Once the sun was up the exposures went all to hell so a walked a little way along the beach to put the sun behind a convenient rock to help keep things under control. Again I had the camera just above the pebbles though this time right on the surf line to keep them out of the bottom of the shot as I wanted blur right to the edges.

Robin, nice shots. Must try to beat the sun rise, find it hard to get up early.

    Thanks

I woke up and just couldn't get back to sleep. I was just going to read but I noticed on my phone that the sunrise was about half an hour away so I had time to get down to the beach - glad I did.

Very good Robin, my favourite time at the beach just before the sun comes into view.

Hi Robin . #2 is just my type of photo. I wish I was able to shoot such images now, but because I have moved to another city a couple of weeks ago, I'm busy with putting the things in order Great image and lovely colors

Looks like you're near a few good coastlines though so once sorted you've plenty to shoot.

Nicely executed, Robin. Like others so far I find the second image more compelling. Nice use of a morning.

Both are wonderful! The second one is more dramatic but the first one is so quiet and alluring. Consider cropping that one just above the lower wisp of cloud to bring more attention to the stone in the center.

    Re: Sunrise

Both images are lovely; in the first image, the big pebble is on the central bisecting line that makes it #2; in the second imag, even though the main stone is centered its central effect is buffered by the supporting stones and got it to positin #1

Great captures Robin. I can feel the warmth and comfort of the first rays of light.

I like the first one more. Especially in ultra-wide format.
