    Yes, a good shot.

Incidentally, with some flies you have to check out variations in the size of those eye facets for an identification; so this proves that you will be up to the job once you get that involved with identification.

As of now my major obstacle to identification is simply resources. Would you happen to know of any good online resources for tropical beasties. Online because books are simply not available.

If for no other reason than it shows how DOF changes with distance from the subject.

I had thoughts of turning this into a 50's sci-fi horror shot but it just wouldn't be pushed that far.

I've had good mentors. Myra and I were talking and this journey has taken about 5 years, 30,000 shots and almost 8,000 posts on CiC.

I wonder where the next 5 years and 30,000 shots will take me? I keep flirting with studio macro but my passion remains hunting in the garden.

Does your lens offer 4:1 magnification or is it 1:1 macro lens?

The Tamron 90 272E macro is 1:1. No extension tubes. Just the camera, lens, a touch of reduced fill flash and a tripod. Here's a link to all the info.

For identification, try Wild About the World. They may also be able to recommend some sites or contacts in your part of the globe. All my contacts are UK based.
