Hi Dave,
Great part of the world you come from – Big Sky Country – so they say. I flew into Great Falls, Montana many years ago, hired a car and drove over Bear Tooth Pass towards Yellowstone NP. I have very fond memories of that trip.
Personally I would like to have seen the top of the bison’s head and also the bottom of his beard. I fell it is a little cut off for my liking. I also think this could do with more sharpening.
The others shots appear a little under-exposed on my screen. The bright sky appears to have fooled the camera’s light meter into underexposing a little. With such a dynamic range it is hard to get all areas correctly exposed.
I am not sure what post production software you use but if you use Photoshop I detailed a technique I use here.
Please keep this shots coming from your area, I really did enjoy Montana.
Thanks for the ideas. No editing done except to darken the last two images. I need to take a photoshop class.
I wanted to get the plant away form his mouth but thought better of the idea. Can't run 30+ MPH anymore.
Hi Dave,
Below is a copy of one of your shots. All I have done is played around with Shadows/Highlights command, which is available within a freebee download at Rawtherapee.com. No use using other techniques when you don’t have them.
I have version 2.4.1 but some here at CiC have been moving to Version 3. This is still in development mode. There is a pdf download that explains how to use it. You can also do contrast and sharpening with this freebee.
