Software Shuts Down (CS6, LR 6 or Helicon Focus)

Hi, I have Photoshop CS6, Lightroom 6, Helicon Focus etc etc but when using for example P/S CS6 or as today after about 10 minutes working with Helicon Focus the screen is going dull and the message Software has encountered a problem and the software shuts down. At first I thought it was a RAM problem but I upgraded to to 16GB but seems not the problem.
When I tried to upgrade from Win7 to Win 10 I got the message the system has a power problem so stuck with Win7.
Could the PSU be having problems and causing software to shut down?
I have a GA-770TA-UD3 Board
AMD Phenom (tm) ll x4
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650Ti with 1 GB RAM
Not a computer geek so any help please?

I was having similar problems with Photoshop and Adobe Bridge when opening multiple images.

Since I upgraded to a faster computer with a SSD hard drive and 32 GB of RAM, I have not had the same problems. I was working with a sower computer ans 16 GB of RAM which should have been enough RAM.

I don't know exactly what portion of the upgrade helped but, it is certainly nice not to have those problems anymore and I hope that they don't start again.

Hi, Thanks, I have an SSD drive installed also but 16GB RAM should run these programs without being out of breath!! Russ

I agree that 16 MB should be plenty. Have you researched what Helicon Focus needs? If memory serves me, I think that they only require 4 GB or greater.

Hi, Yes made sure that computer could handle it, trouble is it's not just HF that it happens with also Photoshop CS^ and On1 Photo 10. I am thinking maybe wipe everything and start afresh, can't see it being any kind of virus as the computer is only used for photography and all the software is legit. Russ

Is the CPU cooling fan working?

Just for interest sake what is the temperature in Greece at present, or more specifically the temperature where the computer is?. In addition are the cooling vents in the computer clear of dust etc?

Hi, 33to35C but inside a lot cooler, fans during the day and A/C at night. Clean inside with small blower and plastic hoover made for the job.Thankyou for the reply. Russ

One problem I have had in the past was the antivirus software checking files as they were saved. When working with very large files the antivirus slows the save up so much that the software crashes. Is your antivirus cinfigured to check files on save, if so turn this off. Or when working with large files disconnect from the internet and turn off antivirus software.

Also make sure you are not double checking with proprietary antivirus and also windows antivirus/firewall.
