    Some Fall Colors

Not the best lighting conditions today. But at least it wasn't raining and fall is short in Alaska. So I figured I better get out and take a shot or two around our new home. There were a few breaks in the clouds and I was hopeful but it just never opened up enough to light up the mountains to show off their color. The ground cover on the tops of the mountains turns mostly red while the lower slopes are mostly aspen and birch so turn bright yellow. At least when the sun hits them

All shot with D810, 24-120 f4VR, CPL, handheld

Upload sized for viewing in the light box.

    1) Going out to walk the dog. Shot from the back yard just before we climbed down the bluff to the marsh.

    2) Down on the flats walking the dog. Bluff face on the left and the mountains across the river delta.

    Some Fall Colors

    3) A little more detail on the mountains. Colors show a little bit.

    4) The bluff face. The red bushes beneath the aspen are lingonberry. When the leaves turn red they smell like horse manure.

    Some Fall Colors

    5) The lowest bushes at the edge of the grass are prickly rose. There are acres of them in some spots along the edge of the marsh. Should offer some photos next spring.

one of the hard things for me to reconcile is that here in the tropics we too get fall colours. Apparently anything that stresses the tree will change the colours of the leaves.

Beautiful! I find it hard to reconcile the idea that you have this view from your back yard AND internet access.

Internet is available in much more remote parts of Alaska than here. Tax dollars at work

Lovely photos - I'm enjoying viewing your new surroundings. Are you planning some winter shots too ? In the second shot, for some reason I cannot explain I expected to see your dog too, maybe another time ?

    Thanks for the comments, guys.

Kaye, I'll most certainly take some shots after we get snow on the mountains. I'm pretty sure the angle will be wrong for capturing morning alpenglow. But evenings should offer some opportunity. Grace is absent from the photos because while I was shooting she was busy digging up what I assume was a musk rat den. I bought her home muddy from head to toe and had to give her a bath.
