    Nice image of the cat's head in the first shot but that out of focus paw looks too big as well as being out of focus.

    The second photo looks much better to me

    Coal black animals are pretty difficult to shoot. You did a nice job... I think that I might use the clone stamp to get rid of the area of carpet (blanket?) that is raised near the bottom of the image...

    Thanks for the comment, Geoff. I agree with you about the paw. I did tell her to stop fooling around and sit still but she wasn't paying attention.

    Thanks, Richard. I've got one pitch black dog and two pitch black cats and yes, they are difficult. They also confuse the camera's autofocus, especially when you try get in close and they think this is a great time to play roly-poly or lick your face (or lens!). I admire your ability to get your rescue dogs to sit still for their portraits.

    As for the cloning: don't think I have the skills to clone cat fur; reckon it would end up looking very odd.
