Yellow Ladybird
My macro learning continues - for C&C. Taken with EM-1, Vivitar 55mm manual focus macro lens, flash with a small diffuser.

Re: Yellow Ladybird
Very nice image Simon Is there a slight yellow color cast in the image or are those real colors ?

Re: Yellow Ladybird
Thanks Binnur - it's the real colours. However, there's so much yellow in the image that it wouldn't surprise me if it's affecting the whites (although I did brush the face slightly to remove some reflected yellow here).

Re: Yellow Ladybird
Thinking of Binnur's question - have you tried a White Balance sample on the white parts of the head Simon?
I can't make up my mind whether I prefer a crop of the left hand side to remove the more distant background on left that isn't contributing much and is brighter than the subject, all bar the flash reflection on the wing casing, that is.
Is it possible to get the flash to illuminate from one side slightly, rather than directly above?
Good to see you're still on this journey, Dave

Re: Yellow Ladybird
Good idea Dave - here's a corrected white balance using the head as the neutral colour:
I don't mind the OOF area, even if it is brighter; I think it forms a nice halo and I don't think it's distracting, it highlights the in-focus region.

Re: Yellow Ladybird
That's a more subtle difference than I was expecting, so I guess it can't have been far off to start, as you said.
