    Not fragile

did I go too far on this conversion? On a previous attempt I cropped out all but the pulley. I think I was missing something.

I think you could go a bit further, a bit more contrast and a bit more brightness.

    Interesting Mark,

When viewed small on my screen, within the thread, I preferred the last, brighter version (="OR"), but in the LyteBox, when viewed larger, I prefer the middle of the three; "Better?".

With regard to composition, I'd crop off just the bright thing on left hand side, leaving as much else as possible. That thing is not part of the truck anyway (at least, it isn't now).

Did you try Silver Efex Pro from Nik Collection, it's free now, it gives very nice effects.

I like the one in the middle Mark. I would crop the image from the LHS and go for a square frame to get rid of the bright thing on the left and to put the main subject off center

I would prefer to remove the white doll like thing on the left by crop which has the added advantage of making the main subject off centered; really like the conversion

That is a valid point, it did occur to me when I suggested it, but I felt it was worth cropping anyway.

Having looked again, cloning that thing out (and leaving the composition untouched) is another possibility.
