IMO, This shot was taken in the middle of the day, not the best for the color rendering, you could improve your picture in ACR in reducing the highlights and open up a bit the shadows, which give more detail in the fur of the animal
Very nice shot
Actually, late afternoon. I was only using my laptop with minimal editing software. Now that I am back, I can address the light's and dark's issues more adequately.
Chris, I like this a lot. Shows off the physical power of the stag, well captured.
This captivating image with the large rack and posture of the bull makes me want to return to Grand Teton National Park in the fall to see the thousands of elk grazing in the meadows. My hunch is that you didn't use a polarizer, which would have improved the image by minimizing the glare in the foreground vegetation.
I think it's a great image regardless of time of day, very lucky to get him the middle of trumpeting.
Just getting a shot like that is a feat. How close were you?
About 200 feet. One doesn't get close to a Bull Elk in season if one knows what's good for them.
I guess you are right, if one knows what's good for oneself...or somehting like that :-)
