That must count as one of your 'top ten' technically Brian,

... and while I wouldn't want to marry it, I guess it is kinda beautiful - which we can see in amazing detail.

    Well done,
    Dave

This one surprised me. But I lost the ruby red of the middle eye when I switched from TIFF to JPEG.

I can see a rim of red there and something that looks blown out, perhaps the red channel overwhelmed the others in conversion?

I don't know much about colour spaces and gamuts - I shoot, process and display everything in sRGB - and hope to avoid such conversion issues.

Not much point me asking for more detail on what colour space you shot, and which you exported in, as I couldn't advise further due to lack of knowledge and experience.

it's certainly a conversion issue. If Capture 1 had an unsharpen mask or I could figure out a work around I could do it all in C.1

Excellent Brian. I will say though that macro can also bring you face to face with some frighteningly ugly critters.

Very nice work. It can be a revelation to look just near one's feet and get low rather than always searching for something momentous at a distance. Sometimes, ca correction can take the red out. Perhaps that is a default part of your software. Bugs, like anything else, can be a good or bad subject. This turned out well!

Actually I enhanced the reds just a gnat and the yellows. Come to think of it i added a touch of blue too. part of the colour issue is that Capture 1 does not convert all that well into Gimp though they both use the same Srgb. Lately I have been trying it all in capture 1.
