    Pond

After being sidelined by medical issues for most of the summer, I finally managed to get out on Tuesday and capture this little gem.

    Pond

As usual C & C are most welcomed.

Glad you are able to get out. Nice colors! It is hard for me to see what the visual focus of the shot is. If it is the pond itself than you might try eliminating the few pieces of foliage in the foreground that intersect the reflection of the sky in the pond.

Best wishes on a full recovery!

I'm glad that you feel better and you are able to shoot again Andre Very nice colors, I agree with Judith about cropping the FG bushes.

    Re: Pond

Most of the foreground is OK for me but there are a couple of seed heads just right of centre which are out of focus so I agree with cloning them out. Also a bit of out of focus foliage in the bottom right corner.

    Otherwise it looks fine.

    Re: Pond

Thank you all for your comments.

It seems that the tall weeds and seed heads appeared as distractions to some of you. I had included them enhance the feeling of depth and to make it clearer that autumn has arrived. I agree with Judith that the photo lacks a focus and tried this crop to emphasize the reflection of the sky in the pond.

    Pond

    Did it work?

    Re: Pond

For me, and this is really personal, the elimination of the sky reduces the sense of space/depth. The counterpoint of the sky and the reflection is an important part of the image. The intersecting foliage, mostly the three seed heads that interrupt the sky reflection, are still a problem and don't really add anything at all. But this is all personal and if leaving them in suits you, then you should follow your own thoughts. But try it the other way and see what you think then.

Nothing like the will to get out and take photographs to get you back on your feet André. Well taken shot but I agree with the thought that it needs a stronger point of focus.

Thank you for your continued interest in my photo. Cropping the sky made the pond more prominent but, as you pointed out, at the expense of a reduction of the feeling of depth. I am not sure if the trade off was worth it. As for the seed heads, I will take your advice and clone them out over the next two or three days. I will post the results as soon as I am done.

The will to take photos is what was missing and it feels really good to feel "normal" again. I thought that the pond would provide a focal point for the photo but agree that it does not work too well.
    Thanks for your comments.

    Re: Pond

I did a quick cloning of the most offending weeds and seed heads and conclude that it will be worth doing it properly. I may be a slow learner but eventually, I do learn.

    Special thanks to Judith.

That makes a surprising amount of difference André. The eye can now travel through the comp unhindered.
