Nice shots, may be color cast blue on the second (or wanted?). Very good balance between BG and FG

Nice captures, I think the second looks better without the moon, too bright and not enough detail; I would probably tone done some of the star bursts in the background.

I really like the second image. In the first image I would like it more if her face wasn't in shadow.

    Hi Dean,

It goes without saying that your model, the composition and technical aspects are all good as usual (in both).

I always enjoy analysing your photos and these are no exception ...

Overall I prefer the first; mainly for the pleasant white balance.

The second seems to suffer a vast excess of magenta that I am guessing might have been caused by some external lighting (colour cycling?) on the building. Or perhaps it was your flash?

The 'cleaner' glass on the balcony is better in the second though.
Not sure if this is a lack of reflection (moved flash, used polariser) or whether they were physically cleaned of rain drops.

John mentioned the stars, in #1, given that DoF appears to be shallower in that one, the stars, like the distant lights and buildings, ought to be blurry, but there are two white things in sky that are sharp and bright, these I'd 'spot heal' or clone out (perhaps they are bugs caught by the flash).

The elongation of moon is a bit of an issue, was it about a 30 second exposure? (no EXIF)

I prefer the first scene where she is gazing into the distance and is detached from the photographer, and anybody else.

I'm no expert but these are well lit. Certainly beyond my abilities. Nice work.

    Hi Jean

There's definitely a cast. I think it may have come from the window curtains of the hotel which strobe was placed near.

Yes there is a cast and I think it came from the curtains which were too close to the flash.

The 'cleaner' glass on the balcony is better in the second though.

I cant recall whether it drizzled down on the 1st image or the 2nd as they were done on different night. Yes DOF was different, 1st one was @ f4 and 2nd was f5.6 and both were done differently. They are kind of experimental shots as I am trying to find different ways to do night environmental portraits and these have way too many flaws for my liking . I know a few photographers who do these kind of night shots and was wondering if it was possible to create them without making it as a composite shot. With composite, sharpness, exposure, colour, contrast and noise etc, all under control (see the composite image below). I am very interested to hear from photographers who have done these kind of shots before.

Beautiful images Dean IMO the color cast suits #2 very well , I wouldn't change the colors or the WB.
