Week 46--Snake--Still working on understanding blending modes in Photoshop so looking for images where that tool might be useful. This snake was on the path as we hiked in Cape Breton. In the original photo there did not seem to be enough separation between the snake and the background to please me. Ultimately using the overlay blending mode with a 26% opacity white layer gave me what I wanted. So much to learn about this PS tool.

Week 46 and 47, did you apply any sharpening to these images; both seem a bit soft to me?

I agree week 46 is soft, but I think that's camera shake during capture (I'd probably shake too), it is worsened by the tighter crop of the processed version. :(
Week 47 looks OK to me, it might stand a little more, but it is already a lot sharper than the snake. Personally I wouldn't try to make it sharper, there's plenty of fine detail.

Neither image was sharpened. That appears to be something I need to experiment with. Thanks for viewing.

Thanks for comments. I haven't yet really explored sharpening and will put that on my list.

Week 48- Bark--this is an old photo. I think I oversharpened it. Would like your opinion.

Lichen and bark are difficult subjects but you have managed to get these looking good.
Well done on the window as well.

48 again very soft, you've captured the shape but not so much the colors or texture. #49 much better.

Thanks--I need to figure this one out. The bark was an old photo taken with an early Coolpix. # 49 is very recent. Maybe I need new glasses!

Week 50--Lunenburg Blue House Door
This is one consistent with a comment received on another site about my week 49 post, a warning that old houses are not always square. I know I worked hard to get a good position to take this photo with my Nikon D40x. And I also know the sidewalk was sloping at this point. The perspective warp tool I have been learning about was of no use. No way was this door ever going to be absolutely square!! But I still like it! And I think this one catches me up!

Hi Judith,
There is a slight slant at the base, cropping to the blue doorstep might help somewhat.

Thanks for your comment. The sidewalk was sloping so the slant at the bottom of the door was real. I agree I could crop it more square. This is one of those cases where I had to choose between altering reality or not. Always hard to know when to make that call. Here it is with the crop I think you are suggesting.
http://i68.tinypic.com/2vjts76.jpg I think I prefer the uncropped version but am interested in comments from others.
