    Stairway to ...................

Taken in the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto. A place I could have spent all day in just enjoying the art and for the photo opportunities it affords. Comments welcome.

The simplicity of the composition, the colors and the negative vignette work exceptionally well.

Nice image John - I was visiting the AGO about a week before you were there. We were primarily there to see the Lawren Harris exhibit (one of my favourite Canadian painters). As we had not been there since the recent renovations had been completed, we wandered around the building, enjoying Frank Gehrey's vision for the place.

I love it, John. One of those images that immediately grabbed my attention. Great composition, nothing to distract from the warm tones of the wood, and nice choice of the negative vignette. Well done.

Superb; the negative vignette created a mystic effect towards the top that it is the path to Heaven

The presentation looks like a picture of a picture hanged on wall. If yes, it's just a picture..
If I'm wrong, (real shoot of a stair) it's very well done.

Nicely conceived, John. I find the vignette on the bottom step a little heavy, though.

    Re: Stairway to ...................

    Thanks all for the comments.

Manfred, the Thomson collection impressed me most - both artefacts and Art. There were three other rooms as well in particular. One I photographed because there was a convenient mezzanine balcony but we could have sat there for some time (more later). One in which there were Picture by what I would guess were relatively unknown artists but which depicted an emerging Nation and more particularly Toronto in it's earliest days. Then there was the collection of ship models in the basement because I have worked with a few of the shipbuilders that originally commissioned them. I have only ever seen one other model collection of that standard and that exists in the Glasgow museums Transport and Technology collection.

Jean, the only time I would ever post a picture of a picture would be to illustrate a point. This is of one of the gallery's staircases and taken by me. Sometimes you see a potential image and you know exactly what you want to do with it. This was one of those rare occasions.

Jim. it may just get there. I will consult with the authority .

I think your are probably right Greg. I have already pulled the bottom centre back to anchor the bottom of the staircase but it needs a bit more.

To me that picture is perfection. If mine I would leave it alone. One of the best I looked at.

Great example of seeing ordinary things in an non-ordinary, interesting and creative way. Nice composition using the light vignette.
