Grass trees put on a feast - all welcome

Grass trees are starting to flower which at first sight isn't much to look at.
    A Forest of them.

The flower bud looks like this.

And then they are covered in tiny white flowers laden with nectar. Even Skippy feasts on them by breaking the stem and chewing the flowering stalk.

The broken stem provides a banquet for the ants.

Bees are the first to arrive.

Even moths can't wait for the night.

    Then everyone is into it.

That one is about 30mm long. It wouldn't wait for me to change lenses.

Some of the gluttons don't make it home....

Informative post and some great photos. Interesting plant. Don't think we encountered that one in our travels. Thanks for posting.

Thinks really are bottoms up down there. Tree ferns, grass trees, what's next?

Good set, Richard. This is a great time of year to wander around the botanic gardens if your town is lucky enough to have one. I say that because my son, the horticulturalist, drove 200k to visit ours yesterday.
