Thank you for that very considered response and critique, Dave

Bit late now, but I gather if headlamps/torches are used occasionally in the dark, red light disturbs your night vision less than white light (although at a distance, the effect will be less), but this isn't something I have tried myself.
Your suggestion re the crop is very helpful. That's the one aspect I still wasn't settled on.

Re the head lamp. You are right. The Black Diamond one that I have does allow for the use of a red as opposed to a white light.

Donald, I'm afraid I agree with Alan's above comment.... There's nothing there that reminds me of Yosemite! And like a couple of other comments here, I think the moon is a bit out of focus.
As an image, my feeling is that it could be any moon shot with a tree superimposed.
It's still a nice image but I know from experience (I lived in California for > 10 years) that this image does not do Yosemite justice.
Did you take any snack with you into the car park? If so, your "bear" shots should be quite interesting!

Very nice image, technically and composition wise.

I agree with the need to know your camera but, I also always carry a flashlight in case I have a "senior moment" and to keep from falling over objects. My flashlight has a red filter. That is a hold over from my Navy days, when we used red light during night exercises, because red light doesn't impact night vision as much as does white light...

BTW: It is really surprising how fast the moon seems to travel, especially when you are hurrying to the spot you want to shoot!
