You are certainly doing better than me at finding interesting subjects, Mark. All that I have seen recently are a few rather scruffy looking common brackets and a couple of Sulphur Tuft groups.

Perhaps, sometime soon, start a Fungi thread for anybody to contribute ?

This is the best I managed. The Sulphur Tuft is a merge of 4 shots but I still failed to get all the foreground moss in sharp focus. Very dark and rather cramped space which was well saturated under my knees so possibly I was rushing things.

Thanks both, it took me a while to get my eye in for some and in some cases a younger set of eyes are useful - my daughter spotted this one - not sure as to the name as yet - its small as you can see its hiding in the moss

Great shots. I've been wanting to get out there for some shroom shots but work keeps getting in the way.

Any of these edible, you think? I have not seen #1 at all. #2 perhaps but not sure...it sure looks like a flower...#3 can't recognize it much but your last pretty one is nice, colour and all, including the extra insect.

Geoff, the sulfur tuff is very nice but doesn't seem to look edible at all. I have seen a lot of #2. I think that one is common.

Izzie, the 2nd of mine is 'very' edible - its a top rated fungi and very expensive to buy - http://www.mssf.org/cookbook/chanterelle.html but be aware there is a 'False Chanterelle' not so good !

the others, well the 3rd is edible a bit like oyster mushroom (ish) the 1st decidedly not !

    Re: A bit of Fungi

There are only a few UK fungi which are seriously poisonous plus some more which will cause a bit of discomfort but won't kill you. The majority are classed as inedible due to an unpleasant taste or texture/smell etc.

Which leaves a relatively small number which are good to eat; unless, like me, you get a reaction to any fungi, except the milder cultivated 'normal edible mushrooms'

    Re: A bit of Fungi

I have only found this one fungus in a photographable location this year. It was a snatched shot using my Canon Powershot. Unfortunately the flash tends to over-expose, so I have cropped the overblown top group.

These were photographed at the Slimbridge Wetland Centre in September at eye level. Saves my ageing knees from having to get down to ground level! I have not identified it as yet, but will post an ID when I do.

Geoff's Trametes versicolor is commonly known as Turkey Tail, a nice descriptive name. If you tried to pick one you would not dream of trying to eat it!

    Re: A bit of Fungi

That one is going to be difficult to identufy unless you kept a sample for close examination and a spore print, John.

Maybe one of the Coprinus species (Inkcap)?

I had a Coprinus the other day and kept one to examine the gill shape; even did a spore print, but found it couldn't be fully identified without microscopic examination of the spore shape. So it ended up as Coprinus sp.

I was asking for verification. I think I had bought something similar but your shot here is yellowish and pretty. Usually pretty fungi are not really edible and so with orange ones the most poisonous or should it be termed as "giddy" because it is more like drug inducing? At least that is what I was told when I was young. Never tried those ones on top of cow poops either.

Another processed from the trip last week - not got around to an ID yet - but I liked the size indicators - the moss and the lichen

One from today, i think, ( as much as I ever do ) its a Coprinus silvaticus member of the ink cap family, I suspect its a fairly safe bet on this one - seems to be very common where it appears on rotting wood

Good camera angles there, Mark, and well controlled exposure.

Certainly looks likely for a Coprinus species.
