    Fighting the Rip

This was taken at the end of the Digby Neck in Nova Scotia. The channel between East Ferry and Tiverton must suffer a bit of a rip on the incoming and out going tides. Certainly, the local ferry seems to work quite hard as it crosses and this fishing boat was fishtailing noticeably as it headed for the open sea (Bay of Fundy).

Your comment is not surprising, as the Bay of Fundy has the highest tidal bore in the world. The difference in water level between low tide and high tide can exceed 15m / 50ft as the tide comes in or goes out, so the volume and speed of the water flowing is extremely fast.

Oh, by the way. Nice shot...

Nice image. I like the processing including the choice of negative vignette. Well done.

Wonderful conversion; the fishing boat stands out really well against a relatively busy background.

Thanks all for the comments. We had originally intended to go whale watching from East Ferry but disappointingly, weather warnings were in force for small craft and it was called off. Maybe next time.

    Re: Fighting the Rip

We have a couple of friends living in Nova Scotia who have a 50-footer boat which they leave each winter to go to milder areas like St. Louis and Tennessee or even overseas. Bill had known Peter since they were three. I just met them for the first time last Tuesday. They invited us over their way for a few days of sailing and fishing.

Anyway, I like the processing and the white blur vignette you did here.

Thanks Nandakumar, thanks Izzie. Izzie, that's what we needed for whale watching but we were unfortunately due to go out in a RIB and with three and a half meter seas forecast ................ BTW, I envy you having friends that have a 50 footer. You will see why anon.

Envy is a harsh word as I understand, John...Bill's friends hobby is about boats. Bill's hobby is airplane, mine is my camera. Somehow when it boils down to it, these are just hobbies.

I don't think so Izzie. It certainly wasn't meant that way. I like boats and all I was meaning was that I wish I had the same opportunities.
