    Bundaberg

Returning from a camping trip at The Town of 1770 we stopped for lunch in Bundaberg. It was once famous as the birth place of Bert Hinkler, an aviation pioneer.

The modern generation would think its fame rested on this.

Sugar mills still grind away on the outskirts of town astride the Burnett river.

The river can be crossed by many bridges.

The main street is a green and pleasant mix of new and old.

The post office towers over the WW1 memorial.
    Bundaberg

Its four faces are inscribed with the names of so many young men from this small farming community who, a hundred years ago answered their Country's call to arms, traveled halfway round the world only to make the supreme sacrifice.

Old buildings have found new uses.

The town square still retains its character.

I like architecture and this is an interesting series Richard. Apart from the interest in the building, it's nice to see how well kept it is.

It's been awhile since I've been there. And Dimmy is still alive and well while Melbourne's part had gone. Bendigo Bank started in Victoria and has thrived well too to extend to other states. I am not keen on the School of Arts building. It is too feminine for its colour and it needs a little bit of perspective correction? I suppose the Cellblock Backpackers hotel will be the safest part of town? LOL I kinda like the exposure on all of these shots. My only complaint is that I wish you had numbered them...

Thanks Izzie, actually Dimmy has gone along with Dick Smith - but in country towns it takes a while to update signs.
I really should have used the 'Keystone' correction on the School of 'pinko' Arts. If they've still got the chains the Cellblock Backpackers will no doubt be the kinkiest place in town...
I'll remember to number them in future.
    Dicky.
