Oh Wow! That is a cool shot, Greg...I like that you didn't opt for the cloudy soft water treatment. This is natural as nature is...good conversion to Black and White too...

Light is wonderful. Beautiful clarity in the image. The aspect ratio (is it 2:1?) works perfectly. Excellent bit of B&W processing.

Thanks Izzie. I have become obsessed with this place over recent months (think Richard Dreyfus' character and that mountain in Encounters of the Third Kind). And those waves have caught me several times, so I treat them (here and there) with respect.

Thanks Donald. It is about 2:1. I have cropped a section of sky from the top because it is just boring blue nothingness, and small strip from the right

Great shot Greg, excellent use of lighting and B&W. We've never been there but it's now on the list. Our Blue Mountains trip in November will almost certainly have a side trip.

Wonderful image, Greg - I like the B&W processing as it brings out the texture in the rocks.

Gorgeous image for all the reasons already mentioned! I love that mostly plain sky as a nice background for all the texture in the rest of the image.

    Re: Cathedral Rocks

I'd like to see the blacks opened up a little. I find in PS, this image a tad more contrasty. Not sure why. I also think this would be better served as a more tightly cropped image eliminating some from the left side and most of the right side past the water splashing on the rocks. 4:3 crop perhaps.

Very nice image Greg If you are obsessed with the location, what about trying some long exposures with ND filters next time

Thanks Richard. I hope you do make it, Richard, there is plenty to hold your interest in the area. One tip though - it's inaccessible at high tide. And if there is a decent swell running - 2-3m - then it can got a bit hairy around mid-tide too. I have learned my lesson, and take spare set of joggers, socks, and jeans now. It's probably best to approach it from the north side via Jones Beach. PM me if you want to know more.

Thanks John. B&W conversion is something I have been working on, as my previous efforts have been a bit hit-and-miss.

Thanks Mike. I hadn't really considered that aspect of it. I would really like to capture the scene with some "radial" type cloud in the sky.

Thanks Chris. The crop you suggest would be a completely different image, though. I have others of the main rock from a different angle which show the detail better but I am not happy with them. It is something to work on - when the tide permits, and the weather is favourable.

Thanks Binnur. I don't have ND filters and my tripod ... well, a new one is next on the list.
