Owls in Yellowstone
My first day in Yellowstone I was able to photograph a Great Horned Owl. All the Great Horned Owls that I've photographed before were obstructed by branches so it was a pleasure to be able to see this bird so clearly.
I'd read about some Great Gray Owls that photographers had been watching in Yellowstone all summer. All five days I was there, I drove to that location trying to get a glimpse of one. On my last day, on my way out of the park, I found one. Watched him for about 20 minutes as more photographers gathered behind me. They are known to hunt during the day, so that is what we were hoping but he ultimately flew further into the forest. It was my first time to see one of these largest of owls.

Nice shots, Terri. The grey is on an awesome perch. Owls, particularly the GGO, are on my bucket list.

It must be so rewarding to sight these predators and walk away with such nice photos. The light, background and perch are just terrific in the first one.

Re: Owls in Yellowstone
I found one captured owl in a farm and it is a performer too. I think these ones you have here are bigger than those I've seen. Very good shot!

Re: Owls in Yellowstone
Thanks again, folks, for the comments. They are appreciated.
Izzie, these are large owls. There are other owls about the same size as the Great Horned, but from what I understand, the Great Gray is the largest in America - according to allaboutbirds.org up to 33" in length and 60" wingspan.
