How we got Elsa...
Our Los Angeles, California rescue branch received a call from a man who stated that he wanted to surrender a six-pound Maltese. One of our volunteers with a ride along friend for safety drove to the man's house. He met the ladies at the curb with Elsa in his arms. Our volunteer said, "That isn't a Maltese. Maltese are white dogs!" At that, the guy threw Elsa into our volunteer's car through the window. Suspecting that Elsa would come to harm, since it was already dark, the volunteer accepted Elsa...
Elsa is a beautiful dog. We suspect that she is a poodle mix but, don't know what the other breed or breeds might be (possibly cocker spaniel). She is pure black and about ten-pounds. Elsa has a sweet and mellow personality and we don't think that it will be long before we find this darling girl a home.

How sad for these dog to just be thrown away. I wonder why the owner didn't like her? She is so lucky to have come to your place. Good luck in finding a new home for her...let us hope she finds love in a new owner.

Nice portrait, black dogs seem to get a bad deal regardless of the breed.

I think it was Mark Twain who said he didn't trust a person who did not like dogs but he did trust a dog when it didn't like a particular person.

Re: How we got Elsa...
I have always liked black dogs, perhaps because, as a child, our family dog was black. However, I do admit that black dogs have a harder time being adopted than do lighter colored jobs. An example of a really hard to place dog would be an older, large, male, black dog...
OTOH, we have a previous adopter who lost the large dark colored dog he adopted to cancer of the heart...
He is seeking another dog and we suggested Elsa. He remarked that he wants to give a home to a larger and older dog because those dogs have a harder time finding an adoptive home...
