Fell Top Autumn
I went up on the fells looking for birdlife the other evening. One of my favourite places but unfortunately the guns were out. The pheasant and Grouse season is upon us. Managed one or two captures but spotted the first of these two images whilst driving. Having taken the shot and turned around to go back to the car I spotted the second image directly across the road. Gives weight to that maxim that suggests that you should always look in the other direction after taking a shot. Comments welcome.

Re: Fell Top Autumn
Both do a great job of conveying the idyllic quality of the scenes, though I would have liked the second one even more if you had used a polarizer to minimize the glare.

Re: Fell Top Autumn
Both nicely composed and executed, John. The layers and lovely light in the first are excellent. The gate itself would have been interesting but composed as is with it opening onto the vast field is brilliant. Well done pair.

Re: Fell Top Autumn
Really like both - shame on the loss of the initial reason for the trip (and the reason for the loss) but its an ill wind that blows no one any good - and in this case you gained two cracking images

Two beautiful shots but If I had to select one it would be the first.

Re: Fell Top Autumn
Thanks everyone for a great set of comments.
Mike, of course I know that a polariser will kill reflections, of course I know that every time I photograph those particular grasses they throw up glare and of course, even though I always have a polariser in the bag, I never think to connect the two so a timely reminder - thank you. (must be old age )
I'm with you Mark. Totally irrational given that I'm not a vegetarian but the sound of the fusillade and the thought of some beautiful birds dropping out of the sky as a result, somehow always saddens me.
