    Ultimate tournament

Spent a couple of afternoons shooting my nephews' Ultimate tournament a couple of weeks ago and had great fun. I have a ton of action shots to process, but am looking to establish a baseline for the white balance that works for the variety of skin tones. The day this one was shot was overcast and rainy and I was shooting auto WB. I warmed up the original some in CaptureOne. Have I gone too far?

Any other comments on processing welcome as I will be wanting to pass these on to my sister and her boys.

I don't think so Janis, but I understand why you feel the need to ask, having often been in a similar situation myself.

I am trying to train myself to set the WB on the day to suit the conditions (e.g. Cloudy for this), and better still, shoot a Whi-Bal (or grey card) shot to use to in PP, perhaps ideally use that for an in-camera custom WB reference to use while shooting - assuming the light doesn't change CT too much (i.e. not shooting too close to sunrise/sunset, even if it is overcast).

I agree with Dave...I think it their skins are OK. any warmer tint will burn them . I am glad you put the two men with the different coat on the sides to form a frame for them but I love the two cheeky females at the back...their smiles are contagious! Made me smile too.

Try this on for size, Janis, by toggling between both images in the Lytebox. Regardless of the look you prefer, you'll get your answer to your question, which is the most important answer.

Thanks for the feedback, Dave, Izzie, and Mike.

Izzie, I didn't pose this group; there were a ton of proud parents shooting, but I knew the school photog (a student whom I befriended during the final game) would be shooting them for the yearbook, so I bided my time until he cleared them all away and then took my shots over his shoulder.

Mike, yours is closer to the original and I think I am going to go back in that direction. Thanks.

Here's the group shot of the other nephew's team, shot in sunnier conditions the day before.

    Ultimate tournament

Somewhat less successful in that not everyone was visible and I could have given them more ground beneath their feet. And I should have made the nephew remove his blue cap. Any other C&C welcome.
