#2 is very mysterious in that it made me think of what lies at the end of that path...I can get lose with my fertile imagination just looking at that hole there.

Yes to that. You normally see images of the Fly Agaric in the full toadstool stage, with the cap expanded. This view of the ball or egg stage is well spotted amongst the autumn leaves.
