I didn't know what category to place this image...

Could be nature and could be people...

We were out in our back yard letting our dogs do their evening bathroom duties (we never let our dogs go out alone at night) when my neighbor came up to our fence, carrying an injured coyote on a garbage can lid. He had found the coyote which had been hit by a car about a quarter of a mile from our homes. Apparently one of its legs had been broken. He was damned lucky that the animal did not bite him

We had him place the coyote in one of our dog runs and called local animal control...

I didn't know what category to place this image...

The animal control officer came within 30 minutes and administered a tranquilizer which zonked out the coyote so it could be placed in the animal control truck.

Judy wanted a picture but there was a 6-foot chain link fence between me and the action. I simply popped up the built-in flash (first time I ever used it) and placed the lens on 17mm wide angle and then reached up over the fence to shoot the picture at ISO 640, just pointing the camera in the general direction towards the action. I didn't want to go in the dog run. I wasn't afraid of the coyote but, the animal had knocked over a pail of water and I was not wearing shoes...

I don't know what will happen to the coyote and didn't really want to ask...

This is a vignette of life in a semi-rural area!

Well done for your neighbor to stop and help an injured animal. Sad to see him that condition.

This image has so many layers it could be placed anywhere and would be fine. I'm surprised that a rescue would be done for a wild animal, then again I've seen rescues for raccoons, eagles, and a few others. I say there is surprise with a coyote because I thought some coyotes try to attack or lure pets away so the pack can prey on them. I thought they were considered pests similar to a rat. I doubt if animal control would do similar treatment for a rat.

This will give you some information.

In my experience, the major difference is in size and living characteristics. The wolf is far larger and the wolf normally will not live around people. Coyotes, on the other hand, are smaller than wolves and will also live in urban and semi urban areas...

Although I have been in the wilds of Texas, California, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, and Arizona, I have never seen a wolf in its natural environment.

OTOH... there are Coyotes all over the Southwest, including within cities.

I stopped off at a very small city park near the center of the City Of Los Angeles and there were "Coyote Warning Signs" posted all over...

I don't like the darned coyotes because they have a propensity for eating pet dogs and cats.

I think if that were to happen around here (yes, we have coyotes in our area of the OC) it would be humanely put down by animal control. My wife was saying a friend who works for the city told her that there's a coyote problem at a nearby park. People are loosing their small dogs and cats to them. When they rebuilt the interchange of the 605/405 freeways there was a mass relocation of the coyotes living in the area taken over by the roads that were built. Big problem for the neighboring communities as the coyotes were very bold in their actions when traversing the area.

unfortunately, I believe it is a removal, not a rescue. I'm not sure they are considered pests, implying wonton extermination. I believe they are considered problematic in some areas and an uneasy cohabitants in others. Critters like raccoons, skunks, squirrels and opossums have urbanized well. They have learned how to live in our neighborhoods and make it their home. Coyotes have not urbanized in that way. They have learned to hunt and scavenge in our fringe areas, but they live in surrounding canyons and hills. I have several friends and family who live in or near canyon and hill country. They learn, for the most part, to live with and adapt to the presence of coyotes, especially with respect to their pets.

I have a hunch that animal control will have put that coyote down by now.
