    Who Saved Who?

Last year, when my pony passed away, in his memory, I offered a session to someone with a horse, who had been thru difficult times, and couldn't afford to have pictures taken. This was the person I selected. She recused the horse from a kill buyer two years ago, and then, the horse rescued her, as she faced a life threatening health crisis. ~The power of the love we have for animals~ She put off the session for a long time, as she is very self conscious about the weight her treatments caused her to gain. We finally did them last weekend - it was a very dark, overcast day.

This is nothing short of a "wow" image. I viewed it before reading your narrative. Though the connection between horse and woman is obvious in the image, which is what makes it magical, the narrative supports everything the image conveys.

Great to see someone pick themselves up from a crisis and move on. I think this picture is more then just picture it is a story very well told. A picture with soul.

This is an image of "Heart". The heart of the horse, the owner, and yours. What a beautiful thing you have done.

What a very beautiful young woman. I know nothing about horses so can't tell you if that's a good looking one or not.

But, given this is a photography forum, what an excellent portrait. Beautiful composition. Just the right amount of blur in the background. And capturing a moment of intimacy, love admiration and pride between woman and horse. A very lovely image.

Kim - my posting / commenting on images has been minimal for about the past month. I did see your beautifully and tastefully executed image and the story that goes with it are indeed wonderful. Well done!

I too have found that activities that a person loves are very important when dealing with serious health problems and certainly can be an important way of dealing with them and certainly help along on the path to recovery. You have documented this beautifully in this image.

Good deeds all around. What a nice tribute to your lost pony. It's a beautiful photo with great positioning and color. Congrats to all of you.

    Wonderful, Kim!
I've always heard (paraphrase) the outside of a horse is good for the inside of a person. This photograph is a great example.

Thank you all for your kind comments - much appreciated. My hope for her is that her health continues to flourish, and at some point she looks back on these and loves the moment, and herself, just as she was. It's a shame that most women are so hard on themselves.

That's special Kim. Special for someone like me (and from the comments, others on here) looking in for the outside but for the young lady in question, it must have been particularly moving. It's a stunning portrait of the two of them.

    Re: Who Saved Who?

Thanks John. When I lost my pony, I felt blessed that I had so many wonderful images of him from which memories came. It made me sad that not everyone could afford that - hence the offer I made. That thought was further magnified when two months later, my only sibling, was tragically killed ~ I so wished I had taken every opportunity to photograph him.

    Re: Who Saved Who?

Kim, I had no idea what you had been through and I feel for you. If there is an up side, it can only be that it allows people like me, who have never had to experience tragedy at that level, to feel lucky and to be grateful. Chin up.
