At my daughter's Ph.D award in Chester Cathedral, I thought that I would have an opportunity to photograph some of the windows. Such opportunities were limited. On the outward procession, I was facing the Great West Window, but I had to make do with my Canon Powershot to take photographs on the hoof. As we exited from the chancel to the west door, I also had a chance to photograph the South Windows to my left.
The lighting was from the clear sky outside, the sun was to the south-east. This means that the Great window was fairly evenly illuminated, as were four out of the five south windows. Only the second was noticeably darker to the left-hand side, and I adjusted this with a layer mask. This was my first effort at using such a gradient mask! Other post-processing was transforming to orthogonal and some sharpening.
#1 Great West Window
#2 South Window 1 (easternmost)
#2 South Window 2
#2 South Window 3
#2 South Window 4
#2 South Window 5 (westernmost)
Comment and Criticism welcome, especially given the circumstances in taking them. The cathedral was occupied most of the rest of the time we were in Chester by other degree ceremonies!
