    First frost of the year

Today was the first time the local pond froze over (3/4 of the pond) this year.
    C&C most welcome.

It was indeed pretty chilly here in Perthshire this morning, wasn't it Gary?

    Nice set of images.

Nice set. The surface of the pond makes for a nice BG against the light colored gull. The cat tail is interesting and technically well executed but I find the composition awkward. Unbalanced I suppose. It looks like you may have been keeping more stuff out of the frame at left but the result is less than optimal IMO.

Thanks Dan for your comments and input.
Below is the image without any PP apart from resizing and unsharp mask for forum.

Cheers Maurice, That's our first real frost. The upside, is a different photo opportunity.

The full size version of #4 looks much better to me. Maybe try a very slight crop of the top and right side but not as tight as the first image.

You could clone out that bit of extra stalk at the bottom but I would be tempted to leave it.

I noticed a bit of light frost on the grass this morning, down here in the 'soft south', but we haven't had anything to freeze the soil or damage plants yet.

Good series...I like the original version of #4 better...good composition but too tight at the sides.
#3 is interesting, it looks like it has slide there in position or did you slide it there?.
My favourite is #2 -- it must have been a pretty sight looking at that bird slide on landing...

We had some pretty good frost here too yesterday. It went down to 26°F overnight and killed all my tomatoes and chillies. Bill harvested them green so it does not go to waste. 'Need to prep them for freezing in the morning..

Very nice images...especially for us who live in hot zones and seldom see snow

The bottle was there when I took the photo. Sadly a few bottles get thrown into the pond.
Thanks Izzie, it was funny watching them land on the ice.
It has been mild here since the frost last week.

I would prefer the hot zone once in a while.
