    Couple more Waxwings

When I got back from my trip they were still eating the neighbor's berries. Grabbed a few shots with a little better lighting.

    1) Closer and better light showed a bit better feather detail. BG could be better

    2) And caught one with crest standing up a bit better.

I just wonder, looking at these, whether they are close enough for a touch of fill flash Dan?

If you have a flash with a decent zoom; say "180-200mm", or perhaps a better-beamer type thing.

It may not be where you want to go, but just thought I'd ask.

They were likely close enough, Dave. But I don't flash. I do have an SB-800 and bought a better beamer years ago with the intent of going that route. But time went by without using it so I recently gave the beamer to a friend. I hung on to the flash for the occasional indoor need.

Berry good I would say. Waxwings and good b/gs do not usually go together.

Still in awe of your birding shots...these are angry-looking birds but very pretty.

That's for sure. These were among a large enough flock that I was able to identify a bunch of berries with a relatively clean BG and low angle and wait for a bird to occupy that spot. But still I have dozens of frames with busy BGs.

They do look sort of angry don't they? Or at least very serious. I think it's a combination of the black "mask" across the eyes and the crest. The ones with the crest standing look particularly serious.
