This one is not working particularly well for me either. I have to say the same thing as John; "barely recognizable".

The problem with B&W is that when everything is gray scale, everything blends together and that is the issue with this image. I suspect it might work better in colour.

Hi John... No, I've not used flash here. It was taken near the bank of the river where people feed them.

Seeing this one, I wonder why you went B&W? The colours are similar and in the same tonal family, but you get enough differentiation in the colours between the fish and the water to more clearly make out what is happening. Normally B&W is used for a number of reasons, most importantly, to simplify the composition; this one is already quite simple.

I was quite taken with the mono version, but I certainly prefer the colour image now you've posted it: very nice.

Now that I see the color version I see some of what you did in the mono to make me think flash was used. Somehow you turned a subdued highlight/shiny local color into a brilliant highlight. The fish lower left pointed towards the corner. Also, somehow you subdued the highlight of the fish immediately behind the corner fish.

My initial thoughts when I decided to do BW was to give the water an "aggressive splashy" but I understand John's and your view about all the tones blending in and making it difficult to distinguish between the fish and the water. In any case, I appreciate the feedback that I get from all of you and will keep working on them.

Yes John, I experimented with Silver Effects to achieve that result.. essentially to highlight the central part and also the splashes of water.
