    Heading East on 167

As I wrote previously, one of the fascinating things about being in the US for someone who comes from a small country where the roads twist and turn and a straight stretch of road is a novelty, is to come across one those routes where the road just goes on ... and on .... and on in a dead straight line.

Highway 167 in California starts from the junction with Highway 395 and cuts across the top (north) of Mono Lake and heads into Nevada. From the junction with 395 there is 21 miles of completely straight road.

I just had to make an image.

You comments and critique will be welcomed.

It is a nice composition but I dread traveling on such roads; unless I'm in the mood for a nap.

I like the image Donald. You have captured the sense of the road going on forever. I think whoever painted the lines on the road were having a nap, the centre line is not too straight

Nice one Donald. I like the way that the road heads straight to a dip I the hills. Well of course it would but it makes a for a good shot.

Nice capture, I would hate to come around a bend and see this road in front of me.

    Thanks for your comments, folks.

This, I think, is one of my best images from that trip in September. It's certainly one of my favourites.

The perfectly plain sky speaks to the characteristic of vastness in the land. I'm glad you included so much of it, though I'm not surprised, as this is typical of your style.

Consider removing the dark tree on the right, as it pulls my eye way to the right and is uncharacteristic of anything else in the scene. On the other hand, I would be willing to bet that you already considered it and declined.

    You know me well.

Yes indeed, I did debate that long and hard. I decided to include it, but I am content to hear views that say it shouldn't be there.

Considering that you debated it long and hard, it probably doesn't make a big difference to you either way. Another way of putting it is that, ironically, anything we debate long and hard probably doesn't deserve the debate.
