    New quilts and baby stuff

We have a grandchild coming in Feb and my wife has been busy making things to welcome her into the world.
This is going to be a long distance relationship since our daughter lives in Japan, and will be for the next 3 years or so. That fact hasn't stopped the sewing machines from running though.
I photographed all the blankets and a few other things, in the house this time rather than outside in the bright sun like my last adventure. I jerry rigged a way to put a blank white backdrop up on our china cabinet and hung the pieces off it too. Worked out pretty nicely and squaring up the camera etc really paid off in time saved when it came time to crop in PP.
So here are a few shots of the Star Wars themed blankets she's made. Our son-in-law is a big Star Wars fan so that is what our little Jedi princess will be swaddled in.

I don't know what kind of material this blanket is made from, but it is some of the softest material I've ever come into contact with.

And I also photographed a quilt label using this new, abbreviated method of hanging. This label is a crop from the side of the photo.

I wouldn't have attempted this with any lens other than my Nikkor 55 I don't think.

Hope you like them, comments always helpful.

Very nice colors! I really like the way you folded the corner up in the first one to reveal the reverse side.

    Thanks all!
I've been working on my pp some lately and it's seemed to have paid off with these shots.
I don't really shoot the backs of the quilts that often, but they are sometimes finished off as nicely as the fronts to the point I don't know which is which.
If I could figure out a way to use that white background showing in the corner to help set white balance, I may finally get some decent images. I don't think my software is sophisticated enough to make use of it though.

The image is under exposed by at least one stop. If you start with a properly exposed image, you'll have better success, especially if your software is not particularly sophisticated as you suggest.

There is no reason not to check the histogram after capturing an image of a quilt. Once you've done that, adjust your exposure, capture another image and recheck the histogram. Do that repeatedly until you capture the image using the ideal exposure.

All very nicely photographed this time around...Glad you are learning to do some pp work. It makes your shots more with oomph! Anyway, the third shot which you said you do not know the kind of fabric is the soft kind of terry fleece material.

I love to see your wife's quilts. My wife is making a quilt for our dog groomer's daughter who is also a groomer and who adopted one of our rescue dogs. See, I managed to even get dogs into a quilting post
