    A green and pheasant land

A couple of pheasants images taken in The Sma Glen (Small Glen), just north of Perth.
Canon 6D Sigma 150mm-600mm hand held.
    C&C most welcome.

What bothers me in the # 1 is this strip of mud, why not go back a little the framing?

Re: A green and pheasant land

I prefer the first image, Gary; although the bird is positioned well to the left side so I would take just a little away from the right side and top. Maybe split the amount between top and bottom.

The second pheasant is rather too close and there is quite a bit of out of focus foreground grass.

However, just getting any image of a live bird is an achievement; as I know only too well.

I don't know how far away you were but with a lens set at 600mm a bit of out of focus grass doesn't seem too bad.

So the pheasant ON the mud is O.K?

Gary, my humble opinion is that they're both fine. Not necessarily my cup of tea but good, clean and excellent shots.

Do you think it would be better if I cropped the mud path.

Thanks very much Tony for your comments.
I was about 50/60 meters away from the pheasant.

A lot of these around at the moment but they are surprisingly hard to catch even with a long lens. A couple of nice captures although I agree with Geoff on the framing.

Thanks John, up our way they seem more wary of humans than moving cars, hence a lot of road kill on our country roads.

At the risk of upsetting everybody I would have shot with a Webley 12 bore Ely Number 12 But not whilst on the ground of course Post processing 20 minutes a pound plus 20 minutes at gas mark 5 But seriously both good shots of this illusive ( and tasty ) bird

Who says police have no sense of humour:
In one of those odd spot columns the curious case of some pheasants frolicking near a loaded shotgun, using it as a perch and landing all over it.. One of the birds somehow caused the weapon to discharge, killing the other unfortunate animal. Police investigated the matter because a loaded firearm was left unattended. At the end of the whole thing the officer (rather smugly) noted that while no charges would be laid with the gun owner, they suspected fowl play was involved...
