I would not know how to review this image on the technical side Donald, but on the visual side all I can say it is stunning.
That's really very nice Donald. The best of your conversions so far IMHO. The balance between shadow and highlights is just right and the brightness of the highlights is just enough to put over the conditions on the day. I also like the way you have included the tree stump and branches in the left FG. At first glance, they might seem insignificant but to me they are important to the overall comp. Beautiful work.
Now this is the first shot I've seen of yours that SHOUTS Yosemite to me.
Simply beautiful.
The quality is there as is the composition and shows how majestic the place is.
Its better than the one I have on my iMac screen at the moment so that makes it a winner for me.
This is a beauty
Wonderful light, reflection ...and PP.
Beautiful capture...
Achieved for me too, I think the only thing I'd now like to see, being aware that your timing was not random, would be a time-lapse to experience the movement of light and shadow across the scene.I went there with the hope of making images that shouted 'quality' and would make people stop in their tracks to view them.
I don't see it as "second tier" either!
Brave and brilliant
Donald - I think what I was trying to say is that the other shots could have been taken in any number of places out west here. This shot could ONLY have been taken in Yosemite. I really like the shot.
Gorgeous image, especially of the subtle reflection.
John
Gorgeous composition and light!
I just have to ask if you treated during post-processing the source light and the reflection in the water to the same degree. The reason I ask is that, though I realize the reflection will naturally be a bit darker than the source, the rock face is so much darker in the reflection than in the source. Similarly, the difference between tonal values of the source and reflection of the rock face seems so much greater than the difference between the tonal values of the source and reflections of the trees. Even so, it's the difference between the source and reflections of the rock face that for whatever reason makes it look a bit unnatural in a scene when everything else appears natural to me.
Great shot Donald. I like how you chose to make the sky dark.
Thank you all for your comments
Mike, I'll admit that coming to this first thing in the morning, I had to take time and read it through a couple of times to get source and reflection all sorted out in my head.
In answer to your question as to whether the source light and reflection in relation to the rick face were treated differently. The answer is 'No'. There was no brightness adjustment made to that part of the image. The only adjustment made to that part of the image was to add some 'structure': i.e. Local Contrast Enhancement and that was exactly the same for the source as well as the reflection.
